_"Bringing the landscape into the kitchen and the produce with it, these paintings are a portrait of rural life in the fleeting moment between the act of dispatch and the cooking of a meal.
The term “still life” comes to its full meaning here, in the depiction of geese and other fowl moments before they make their contribution to a great cassoulet.

Having been plucked and gutted and brought in to the shaded cool of the kitchen, their presence is felt, with the respect and trepidation one naturally feels for a wild animal in the familiarity of the house. Then, with dutch courage, the moment is gone, the cooking has begun and the kitchen table is again scrubbed clean."_
