ABOUT TENEKA, BUDDY & IVY

A very cute but very important player for our Annual Truffle Season is the truffle hunter and dog.

We have worked with Teneka for many years who is renowned in the Orange region for being one of the best truffle dog trainers. And what a relief!

After roughly six years when our first truffle harvest was imminent, the question emerged as to how to find a truffle. An application went in for a retired airport sniffer dog from Canberra, a Labrador called Spike, who upon arrival was more enamoured by cellar door customers then sticking his nose in the dirt!

It was no wonder the cute little dog was a failed sniffer dog! He never found a single truffle. Luckily local dog trainer, Teneka, spotted the opportunity and trained her bitser to sniff out the truffles. And so the truffle industry in Orange was born.

Buddy, one of her star truffle dogs, is a 7 year old Labrador cross who was surrendered to our local pound about 6 years ago. Buddy was taken on by Teneka shortly after he was surrendered. She saw that Buddy was a great problem solver, very driven to work for a ball and was very happy to work in many different environments. Teneka took about 6 months to get Buddy fit and back to full health and introduced him to the black Perigord truffle. Buddy hasn't looked back from this point, he loves to work and finds looking for truffle super fun, like a massive hide and seek game.

Buddy particularly likes showing off his skills at our annual truffle event and ongoing throughout the truffle harvesting season.

We cannot wait to welcome Teneka and our furry friends back to Borrodell for another exciting season.
